The Kingaroy Butter Factory , home to Proteco, is celebrating its 100year anniversary this year. The original butter factory played a significant role in the early progress of the town.
The factory opened on 1 February 1907. Seventeen suppliers delivered cream to the factory. In 1926 the factory was rebuilt at a cost of £46,850.0s.0d to cater for 928 suppliers. The number of suppliers peaked in February 1931 when a record number of 11,149 supplied cream. The factory was established at a total cost of £3,642.15s.7d ($7,285) -£190.0s.0d ($380) for the 20 acres of land. Up to June 1948, 123,727,727 pounds of butter had been produced — a total of £7,499,174.0s.0d having been paid to suppliers.
